Close friends of mine in Marysville lost everything in the devastating 2009 Black Saturday Fires. A year later, everything was still black with nothing growing. The exception was a two foot tree stump (jet black) that I remembered as being a tall grand strong tree. The stump had tiny green shoots starting to live again. The resilience of nature and people is incredible.
